Why test for FIV

FIV attacks a cat's immune system and leaves it vulnerable to other infections. It spreads mainly through bite wounds, and there is no cure, so knowing a cat's status helps you house cats safely and give FIV-positive cats the supportive care they need.

Common questions

Can kittens test positive without being infected?
Yes. Kittens can carry FIV antibodies from their mother, so FIV-positive kittens are usually retested when they are older. Your veterinarian can advise on timing.
