Answers to the questions shelters, rescues and clinics ask most about QBQVET rapid tests for cats and dogs: accuracy, sample types, pricing, shipping and returns.
About QBQVET tests
What is QBQVET?
QBQVET LLC is a Michigan company that has made veterinary rapid diagnostic tests since 2014. We sell 17 lateral-flow tests for infectious diseases and parasites in cats and dogs. Kits are assembled at our facility in Rochester Hills, Michigan, and are used by animal shelters, rescues, TNR programs and veterinary clinics in more than 40 states.
Which tests do you sell?
Cats: FeLV/FIV Combo, FeLV, FIV, FPV (panleukopenia), FIP/FCoV antibody, FHV-1 (herpesvirus), FCV (calicivirus) and Toxoplasma IgG/IgM. Dogs: CPV (parvovirus), CPV/CCV combo, CCV (coronavirus), CDV (distemper), Heartworm, Lyme, Anaplasma and Rotavirus. Cats and dogs: Giardia. See all cat tests and dog tests.
How fast are the results?
Every QBQVET test gives a result in 10 minutes. No lab, analyzer or other equipment is needed.
How accurate are QBQVET rapid tests?
Our antigen and antibody tests have sensitivity and specificity in the 95 to 99% range, depending on the test. Product-specific figures include CPV/CCV combo: 95.3% sensitivity, 98.1% specificity; FHV-1: 96.00% sensitivity, 99.33% specificity; FCV: 97.00% sensitivity, 99.20% specificity. Rapid tests are screening tools, so confirm positive results with a veterinarian.
What sample does each test use?
Feces: FPV (panleukopenia), CPV (parvo), CCV, CPV/CCV combo, Giardia and Rotavirus. Blood: FeLV and FIV single tests; whole blood, serum or plasma for FeLV/FIV Combo, FIP/FCoV, Toxoplasma IgG/IgM, Heartworm and Lyme. Serum or plasma: Anaplasma. Eye or nasal discharge swab: CDV (distemper), FHV-1 and FCV. Each product page lists the exact sample type.
Can a recent vaccine affect the result?
Yes, for some tests. A recent modified-live panleukopenia or parvovirus vaccine can occasionally cause a weak positive on the FPV or CPV test. Tell your veterinarian about recent vaccines when you interpret results.
Is a positive rapid test a diagnosis?
No. Rapid tests are screening tools. Confirm positive results and treatment decisions with a veterinarian. For example, kittens can carry FIV antibodies from their mother, so FIV-positive kittens are usually retested when they are older. QBQVET tests are for animal use only.
