Why test for parvo

Canine parvovirus is a highly contagious virus that mainly affects young puppies and unvaccinated dogs, causing severe vomiting, diarrhea and dehydration. It survives in the environment and spreads fast in shelters and kennels, so early detection saves lives and helps contain outbreaks.

Who uses it

Animal shelters, dog rescues and foster networks, breeders, kennels, boarding facilities and veterinary clinics.

Common questions

Can a recent vaccine affect the result?
A recent modified-live parvovirus vaccine can occasionally cause a weak positive result. Tell your veterinarian about recent vaccines when you interpret results.

What should I do after a positive result?
Isolate the dog right away and contact your veterinarian about treatment.

Want to check for coronavirus at the same time?
Our CPV/CCV combo test checks for parvovirus and canine coronavirus with one sample.
